National Film Awards to be declared today

Sridevi Kapoor, the late veteran Bollywood actress has been posthumously named the Best Actress for her role in the Hindi film, Mom today at the 65th National Film Awards.

Shekhar Kapur, who was the feature film jury head, announced Sridevi's name saying that she was the most deserving candidate for the award.

The wait to hear the best films of 2017 is finally over.

In his note shared on social media, Anil Kapoor thanked the jury for the recognition and said that the National Award means a lot to them.

"Director Ganguly, who has multiple National Film Awards in his kitty, said he was happy that "Nagar Kirtan" got its due".

Parvathy won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress in 2018 for her performance in "Take Off" that released a year ago.

"The point of these awards is that you go back and watch these films", Kapur said before announcing the winners, referring to the often unrecognised and undermined gamut of regional cinema in India. It's time to celebrate her achievements.

The film marked Sridevi's 300th movie, as well as her final role. Amit V Masurkar's Newton has bagged the Best Hindi Film while Pankaj Tripathi has received a special mention for his performance.

Further Rahman also talked about working for late actress Sridevi's "Mom" and was elated at it getting the National Award as well.

Baahubali won the Best Action Film.

"For an actor, it is befitting that he receives an award for his performance while he is in the midst of a shoot for another film", he asserted. At the award ceremony, Jury Chief Shekhar Kapur had confessed that he had requested his fellow jury members to not to give the award to Sridevi. It's a very special moment for all of us.
