Trump dismissed advisers' warnings against vetoing spending bill

On his border wall, Trump said he was not happy he got only $1.6B, "but it does start the wall and we will make the $1.6B go very very far. Nobody read it. It's hours old". "Some people don't even know - $1.3 trillion, it's the second-largest ever".

While Marc Short, White House legislative affairs director, doesn't appear to be anxious by the tweet, stating to CNN that he thinks "we'll be OK", others are rooting for Trump to go through with the veto.

Trump used the threat to draw attention to his displeasure about immigration issues, although he said the bill would boost funding to the military, one of his top priorities.

He said the measure will keep the military funded and provide the largest pay increase for US troops in over a decade. The president accused Congressional Democrats of putting up "tremendous" opposition to military spending, and complained that he had to trade increased military spending with "wasted" money for Democratic projects. They did not want DACA in this bill. "There's a lot of things that I'm unhappy about in this bill". We wanted to include DACA, we wanted to have them in this bill.

"President Trump's comments fall short of honest and definitely do not reflect his actions", said Mireya Reith, the founding executive director of Arkansas United Community Coalition (AUCC).

Some 690,000 immigrants are registered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that Trump ended on March 5.

Despite the Democrats pushing for protection from deportation for the "Dreamers" who came to the United States illegally as children, that did not make it in to the final deal. Trump rescinded it in September of a year ago, giving Congress six months to try and make it constitutional. Meanwhile, federal judges have ordered the Trump administration to keep in place certain parts of DACA while legal challenges make their way through the court system.

In the tweet, Trump cited that his problems with the bill are that legislation does not include the following: adequate funding for his oh-so-famous border wall, or a solution for recipients of the DACA program.

The bill provided $1.6 billion for border security and construction or fix of almost 100 miles (160 kilometers) of border fencing, but that was far less than Trump had been seeking.

"We want DACA recipients to know that the Republicans are much more on your side than the Democrats. We're going to be starting work literally on Monday on not only some new wall - not enough but we're working on that very quickly - but also fixing existing walls", he said. Trump called for the Senate to remove its filibuster rule, to allow legislation to advance by a simple majority of 51 votes, and for Congress to give him a line-by-line veto of future budgets to prevent a repeat situation. Corker, who voted against the Omnibus Spending Bill, replied to Trump's tweet, essentially saying that Trump should veto the bill and he is down the street and will bring him a pen.

I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded.

The budget passed the House of Representatives by a margin of 256-167, but it almost stalled in the Senate when an Idaho lawmaker tried to stop the entire process over the renaming of a forest in his home state.
