Women manage train, Dharwad railway station

Ajni a satellite station of Nagpur, falls under the Nagpur division of Central Railway Central Railway's Matunga station became the first all-woman station on January 8 and is today manned by a staff of 41.

Chandragiri station, near Tirupati, has been named as the "all-women railway station" by the South Central Railway (SCR) management.

"About 20 per cent of SCR staff are women and they have played a stellar role in various capacities as loco pilots, station masters, technical and security personnel". Ahead of the global women's day, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav handed over the responsibilities to a team of women on Tuesday to make Chagragiri, Guntakal division, the first such station in Andhra Pradesh, it has been reported.

This would be the first time in East Central Railway's history that every post at a railway station would be taken over by women personnel. "Finding TTEs and RPF staff is not a major issue".

Also, three trains - Barkichampi-Tori Passenger in Jharkhand, Koyna Express and Deccan Queen Express from Mumbai to Pune - will have only women travelling ticket examiner (TTE).

Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi Division Rajesh Mohan and other railway officials were present.

Mr Vinod Kumar also extended his warm greetings to the women on the occasion of International Women's Day. The train was boarded by all women-crew consisting of a motor woman, guard, Ticket Checker and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Helpdesk will be kept at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on March 8 where women staff will be sitting and will help the commuters.
