Later in January, they charged him with the deaths of Majeed Kayhan, 58, missing since 2012; Soroush Mahmudi, 50, reported missing in 2015; and Dean Lisowick, 47, a homeless man who hasn't been reported missing but whom police believe may have died between May 2016 and July 2017.
Det. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga said previous attempts to identify the man have been unsuccessful and police are now releasing the photo to the public in hopes that someone can identify the man.
And on the accused serial killer's computers, photos of his suspected victims were discovered on the hard drive.
"We need to put a name to this face and bring closure to this man's loved ones", Idsinga said.
So far, police have only identified three of the sets of remains recovered - those of Kinsman, 49, Mahmudi, 50, and Navaratnam, 40. "It's a bit of a misconception", he said.
With the discovery of a seventh individual's remains, there are now the human remains of at least four other individuals yet to be identified.
Police previously announced they had found the dismembered remains of six individuals this year in large planters at a home where McArthur, 66, did landscaping work and that he used as storage. The process is laborious and may take weeks or even months, according to Idsinga. Searches have been carried out at another 30 sites connected to McArthur and hundreds of missing persons cases dating back decades are also being re-examined.
Dr Michael Pollanen, Chief Forensic Pathologist for the Province of Ontario, said the causes of death are pending further studies.
Idsinga previously said about 20 planters were seized from properties across the city as part of the investigation.
Secondly, Pollanen added, "if you have an incomplete set of remains, it may be very hard to ascertain the cause of death". He was accused of murdering several people and burying their remains inside large planters on the properties where he worked, according to The Guardian.
As CBC News reported in January, McArthur was charged with two counts of assault in 2003 after attacking a man with a metal pipe, requiring him to stay away from a section of the downtown gay village and to not be in the presence of male prostitutes. Only recently did investigators determine that the remains of a seventh person were also within the planters.
At the time, police said they had no evidence of foul play in the Project Houston investigation, which also looked into the disappearances of Kayhan and Abdulbasir Faizi, 44, whose case remains unsolved.
