Michigan college student suspected of killing parents

The Mount Pleasant police and Isabella County Sheriff's Department are assisting university police, officials said.

At least two people were shot dead in what authorities said was a domestic issue at a dormitory at Central Michigan University on Friday morning and police were searching for the gunman.

James Eric Davis, Jr. was spotted and reported by someone on a train that was passing through the north end of CMU's campus just after midnight, the site posted shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Jiminez Allen, Bellwood police Chief confirmed that his elder brother worked a part time as a policeman in Bellwood.

An official said Davis Jr. was taken to a hospital on Thursday night by because of a drug-related health problem, possibly an overdose.

Police believe a Central Michigan University student shot his parents to death Friday when they came to pick him up for spring break. Cameras captured the suspect exiting the north side of the residence hall and running along the railroad, a police official said.

Campus police identified and released a photo of Davis during an afternoon news conference. Police say his parents had just picked him up from the hospital, where he was taken the day before for suspected drug abuse. The suspect is considered armed and risky.

Sherry Knight, associate Vice President with University Communications said the university advice to students was to stay where they are and stay in their dorm rooms or campus buildings. "That's traumatic. To the students, to the parents, to the staff, to the faculty".

More than 100 police officers spent the afternoon and evening searching the Mount Pleasant area for James Eric Davis, who authorities described as armed and risky, after he allegedly shot his mother and father, an IL police officer.

The Davis family is from Plainfield, Illinois, about 38 miles southwest of Chicago.

Davis Sr. was a police officer in west suburban Bellwood and an Illinois National Guard veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Police say he fled on foot.

- The Central Michigan student accused of murdering his parents has been arrested. An automated phone message from the school also was sent to students Friday morning.

The shooting forced the university to go into lockdown, students sheltered in class and in dorms for hours.

Parents arriving to pick up students before spring break were redirected to a hotel near campus while police continued the search for Davis.

The Bellwood Police Department is in "close communication" with authorities in MI to aid in the investigation and search for the couple's son, a police spokesman said.
