Injured star Neymar wants PSG Champions League glory despite Real Madrid links

Neymar posted a photo on social media of his ankle in heavy strapping after being taken off on a stretcher in tears during Paris Saint-Germain's 3-0 win over rivals Marseille on Sunday.

Sources close to both the player and PSG said Neymar does not want to play with painkillers because he feels the method would increase the risk of the injury becoming more serious than it already is.

"He'll know what's better for him, if it is to stay at PSG or to go to Real Madrid, or Barcelona, or Brazil, I don't know".

"You need discussions with the doctor, the player, his entourage". 'I'm not happy with Neymar's injury.

PSG have never reached the Champions League final, and lost at the last-16 stage last season after a humiliating 6-1 second-leg thrashing by a Neymar-inspired Barcelona, having won the first game 4-0.

According to Globo Esporte, the Brazil global will undergo surgery to treat the injury that will take three months to recover, meaning he would only return to first-team action in May, one month before the World Cup begins.

In addition to Neymar's injury, PSG confirmed centre-back Marquinhos was also injured against Marseille, the defender sustaining a thigh injury.

"Neymar is not going to be operated on, this information is false", Emery said. "At the moment, tranquillity and we'll see how it evolves over the coming days".

It's a huge blow to the world's most expensive player, whose dream of winning the Ballon d'Or by moving to PSG is only likely to be realised by winning the Champions League.

Neymar has been in scintillating form since his arrival at the Parc des Princes, scoring 29 goals and registering 17 assists in 29 games.

"We normally try to protect him by planning things ahead with him, but it was normal to have him play against Marseille, it was an important game", Emery said.
