Central Intelligence Agency boss: 'I have every expectation' Russian Federation will meddle in 2018 midterms

"Of course" Russian Federation will attempt to interfere in the 2018 midterm elections, CIA Director Mike Pompeo told the BBC in an interview aired Monday.

The US is already in the throes of an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, accusations that both Moscow and the White House administration deny.

In an interview with the BBC aired yesterday, Mr Pompeo said Russian Federation had a long history of information campaigns and said its threat would not go away.

"I hope that they will rise up and understand that it is not the best interests of their country to send forces to places like Europe as proxies to try and conduct malign activity in Europe when there's so much that can be done to make Iran a better place", he said.

Pompeo also said China was trying to steal United States information.

He then brought up the efforts put to get hold of United States commercial information and access to hospitals and schools, efforts which reached the UK and Europe.

Pompeo says more must be done to halt this threat.

In an interview with a BBC correspondent Mike Pompeo repeatedly stressed that while the Russian interference in matters of United States has been a long standing debate, the interference of the Chinese is something that needs to be given more focus at the time.

Director Pompeo's remarks were followed by a moderated discussion with Mr. Theissen covering a range of topics including President Trump's daily engagement with the intelligence community, the pending threat of North Korea, and how Director Pompeo will position the Agency to take calculated risks to defeat America's adversaries.

Pompeo struck a combative tone in the interview, setting out his vision for the Central Intelligence Agency under President Trump.

"I don't intend to", Pompeo said, adding that the "claim that the president isn't engaged and doesn't have a grasp on these important issues is unsafe and false and it saddens me that someone would have taken the time to write such drivel".
