Kesha's Grammy performance brings message of hope, healing amid Time's Up reckoning

Kesha performs "Praying" at the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden, Jan. 28, 2018, in NY. She was noticeably emotional while performing the song tonight, and rightfully so. It was a highlight of the evening and a reminder that, no, Ed Sheeran should not have taken home the Grammy for best pop solo performance for "Shape of You".

Many viewers were highly anticipating Kesha's performance of "Praying" at the 2018 Grammys.

"Praying" is an autobiographical song clearly directed at Dr. Luke, the producer whom Kesha accuses of raping and psychologically tormenting her. By the end, even James Corden was briefly at a loss for words, as Kesha's fellow singers surrounded her in an embrace.

Kesha's previous album came in 2012.

At the Grammy Awards Sunday night, though, Monae's introduction of Kesha's performance began to acknowledge the movement that was earlier represented by the white roses worn on the Grammy red carpet.

Ahead of the Grammys, Kesha shared how singing this song will be a healing moment for her and how she hopes it helps bring peace to other survivors of abuse and sexual assault.

Her single Praying had been her first release in four years and served as a tribute to the hard times she had overcome. But the performance raises the question of how many left speechless in the audience would still gladly collaborate with Dr. Luke.

Despite the rousing reception, Kesha was passed over for the awards. "I never could have known what would've happened these past few years", she wrote on Twitter.

Wearing all white and flanked by an army of women - including Andra Day, Bebe Rexha, Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Julia Michaels and the Resistance Revival Chorus - Kesha belted out the lyrics to "Praying" with raw, dripping emotion: "Well, you nearly had me fooled/Told me that I was nothing without you/Oh, but after everything you've done/I can thank you for how strong I have become".
