DeMarcus Cousins OUT for the season: Pelicans star suffers injury against Rockets

New Orleans Pelicans All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins has suffered a full rupture of his left Achilles tendon, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Pelicans' impressive 115-113 win over the Houston Rockets on Friday was soured after All-Star Cousins had to be helped off the court due to a non-contact injury to his left leg, which he sustained with only 12 seconds of the match remaining.

Cousins had his second triple-double in three games on Friday night, with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.

Before various news outlets confirmed that Cousins will be out for the year, Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry spoke to the media, and was visibly devastated.

Cousins, who alongside Anthony Davis makes up one of the NBA's best frontcourts, had to be helped off the court during the final moments of Friday's win after sustaining the injury. Cousins spent seven seasons with the Kings before being traded giving the city of New Orleans hope for their franchise with arguably the most elite front court in the National Basketball Association. The middle of the Western Conference playoff is so close that only 3.5 games separate the Pelicans from the third-seed San Antonio Spurs. Cousins is a dynamicplayerwho is able to do a lot on the floor. Tonight's game will take place from Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana and will air live on ESPN.

DEMARCUS Cousins' season is over.

Cousins had averaged 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds in 48 games this season.

The New Orlean Pelicans have been pretty spectacular this year.

There's no overstating Cousins' central role in the Pelicans' surprisingly strong season and there should be no overstating how dramatically his absence will negatively impact his team's fortunes.

Jrue Holiday scored 21 points and unconventionally sealed the victory by purposefully missing a free throw with 1.8 seconds left, causing time to run out as players fought for the rebound. "We were just figuring it out, that's the tough part". Keeping Jordan and Williams makes more sense for the Clippers if they expect to make the playoffs, and Utah's slim hopes of a playoff berth now seem slightly more realistic. Even if they make the playoffs, this feels like a lost season.

Cousins has played in all 48 of the Pelicans' games this season, and he has dealt with very few injury issues throughout his career.
