Google launches audiobooks on Play store

Audiobooks will be available in 45 countries and in nine different languages.

Once you buy an audiobook on Google Play store, you can invoke "Google Assistant" by saying -"OK Google, read my book (title name)" and also ask trivia about the author and other details at any point of the reading session.

Google updated its Play Books service to bring audiobooks to it with Google Assistant integration and casting support. As with Amazon, media you buy on the Google Play Store is usually available across Android, iOS, tablets, desktops, the web, and (sometimes) TVs.

Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) online store now sells audiobooks in a bid to take on Amazon.

Google has plans to bring its audiobooks to other platforms like iOS in the near future, keep your ears open for more details. Over the weekend, a dedicated section for Audiobooks spotted on Google Play, and now the company has made it official.

Google has finally added audio books as a separate category on the Google Play Store, in India. You can purchase them individually at what they say are affordable prices.

There are no monthly subscription fees, the titles can be purchased individually of course with discounts on many.

Google also notes that like eBooks, the consumers will be able sample the audiobooks before purchasing them by selecting the preview option.

With the audiobook users will now be able to experience their favourite literature read out by simply instructing Google Assistant - "Ok Google, read my book".

"With audiobooks on Google Play, you can turn your time stuck in traffic, on the treadmill, or waiting in line into reading time", Google's Greg Hartrell explains.

Some of its features include an ability to listen to audiobooks without a subscription, continue reading across multiple platforms and more. It will be coming soon to the Assistant on Android Auto in the U.S.
