Detroit man deported to Mexico after 30 years in US

Garcia had a stable job as a landscaper, paid his taxes, and had no criminal record.

Jorge Garcia has lived in the United States since he was 10-years-old.

After applying for a green card, Mr. Garcia received an order of removal in 2009, Ms. Garcia said, but succeeded in arranging a stay of deportation.

This story is sure to be played out across the media, both mainstream and social, as another case of the dictatorial Trump Administration ripping babies from the arms of mothers and tossing them over the already-built portions of the wall between the USA and Mexico, and leaving them to fend for themselves.

The family, including daughter Soleil and son Jorge Jr. have been forced into therapy over the loss of their father.

Cindy Garcia says her husband has been in contact with immigration agents for the past 13 years and has been trying to find a path to citizenship. "It was rough because we knew he was going to leave eventually". When they tried to get him legal status in 2005, they wound up in deportation proceedings, she told ABC News.

Brought to the U.S.by an older relative when he was just 10 years old, Garcia is now too old to qualify for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which is now the center of heated negotiations on Capitol Hill.

"It was very sad, knowing that we had to face this head on and there was no more extensions that were coming", she said. Escorted by ICE agents, he said bye to wife and 2 kids before boarding. His 30-year stay in the U.S. came to an end at Detroit Metro Airport, where his wife, Cindy, 15-year-old daughter, and 12-year-old son (all United States citizens) bid him a tearful goodbye as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents brought him through security to board the plane taking him to a now-unfamiliar place.

Garcia's wife was told he would not be allowed to return home for a decade. "This is outrageous. We never expected this would happen".

On Sunday night, a heavy-hearted Garcia said he was sad and anxious. "Because any time you leave the city, you have to tell them where you are going".

Cindy Garcia added that the moment became real for her and her children when ICE agents took her husband away while hugs were being shared. "Me not being there for them".

Cindy is working to get him back to the United States, but she said it could be 18 months before he even gets a hearing.
