Google Chrome Will Start Blocking Annoying Ads In 2018
Dec 20, 2017, 01:12
In April, reports started to swirl that Google was creating an ad-blocking version and implementing it in Chrome. The Coalition for Better Ads has a list of rules and guidelines that online advertisements need to follow so they don't get blocked from Chrome, and violations include the likes of pop-ups, ads that take over your entire screen, automatically playing videos, etc. The company originally stated that Chrome's ad-blocker would launch at some point in early 2018, but we now have a specific date of February 15, 2018, as the official launch of it. Chrome 64 is now scheduled to arrive on January 23 and Chrome 65 is slated to launch on March 6, suggesting Google will be turning on its browser's ad-blocker remotely, and possibly gradually for select users. Google even went as far as to say that ad blocker use because of bad ads is threatening the sustainability of the web ecosystem. When those annoying ads will be eliminated, the users will never have to install an ad blocker, which stops all ads from loading, thereby, crippling the ad businesses.
Google's strategy is simple: Use Chrome to cut off ad revenue from websites that serve low-quality ads, as determined by the aforementioned standards. If Google finds that a site is failing to meet the coalition's advertising standards for more than 30 days, Chrome will remove all ads from that site. Yes, Google has finally added an ad-blocker in Chrome that will be cracking down on annoying ads that ruin our web experience.
