When the fifth season of the Emmy-winning show came to a close, fans watched as Wright's character, Claire Underwood, declared, "My turn".

"We are excited to bring closure to fans", Mr Sarandos said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Season six, which was scheduled to air in 2018, will count just eight episodes instead of the regular 13 made for previous instalments of the hit show, in which Spacey plays a corrupt United States congressman who eventually becomes president. Ted Alrandos, Director of contents of online platform, has confirmed that production of House of Cards ' sixth and final season will resume in early 2018 and that Robin Wright will be protagonist. They want to keep the show going and it's understandable that this is something they would want - House of Cards employs many people and you want to see these people in the Baltimore area have work a little while longer. Spacey was officially suspended from the show early last month.

Last week, Netflix renewed hit supernatural series Stranger Things for season 3 and David Fincher's Mindhunter about Federal Bureau of Investigation serial-killer profilers for season 2, while it cancelled Haters Back Off featuring YouTube's Miranda Sings (created and played by Colleen Ballinger) after two seasons.

The Oscar victor was subsequently fired from the show, sparking rumours suggesting that would mark the end for House of Cards.
