Iceland relishing Argentina match-up

Nigeria's Super Eagles will be facing Argentina for the 5th time in their 6 World Cup tournaments after being drawn in a relatively fair first round Group D, that also has Iceland and Croatia.

He gave the warning on Friday at the ceremony for the World Cup draw in the Kremlin in Moscow.

Seyi Dada-Martins, a multimedia consultant, also said: "It is a very dicey group we have been drawn into, but I'm confident in the abilities of the set of players we have to scale through the group stage".

They beat Bulgaria in 1994, Spain in 1998, and Bosnia in 2014, drawing with England 2002, and will be aiming for at least four points heading into their final fixture against Argentina.

The Super Eagles have lost all four previous World Cup meetings with La Albiceleste - in 1994, 2002, 2010, 2014 - albeit by slim scorelines. We showed that it was possible to win against Argentina but it will be a different ball game and we have to be strong both mentally and physically.

They are also pitched against Croatia and Iceland in Group D and play their first game on June 16 against Croatia.

"They are a very good team".

Champions Germany are in Group F with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea, in what seems to be a tough group.

However, Nigeria will face Croatia in their opening match.

A draw there would see the Super Eagles advance, providing Nigeria haven't slipped up before then.

When asked about Maradona's remarks, Sampaoli said: "I hope we have the possibility during this time to train and play better".

"I hope that Icelandic fans will come to Russian Federation and stay at least for the three first games, and then I don't know how long they will stay, but hopefully they will see us through to the end of the tournament". Croatia who made their debut at the World Cup in 1998 finishing at third-place boasts A-list players in Europe such as the Real Madrid duo of Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic, Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic.

The last game of the group will be against two-time World champions Argentina at the St Petersburg Stadium on June 26.

Iceland will be the smallest nation to ever play in a World Cup, and Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson admitted they will have their work cut out for them.
