NFL accuses Cowboys owner of engaging in conduct detrimental to the league

Jones has been claiming that the league's compensation committee, chaired by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, has been misleading about the contract negotiation process for Goodell's extension.

The NFL has no shortage of issues plaguing it publicly and internally, from the national anthem protests to the ongoing revelations about brain damage among players. but if this story is any indication, the league is about to have a real big Jerry Jones problem on their hands.

The biggest bombshell came from the exchange that reportedly occurred when Goodell originally informed Jones that the National Football League would be handing down a six-game suspension on Elliott (after originally assuring Jones there would be no suspension). Seconds passed. Goodell's decision was an unconscionable violation of trust, Jones later told associates, because he believed that the commissioner had assured him this past spring that there would be no suspension.

It was revealed last weekend that Goodell requested a salary of approximately $49.5 million, a private jet and lifetime health insurance of his family last August. But then Goodell suspended Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games - Elliott dropped his appeal on Wednesday night, coincidentally, and will serve out the suspension. Elliott ended his legal fight on Wednesday with five games remaining.

The NFL informed Jones's lawyer, David Boies, in a letter from a league attorney that it considers Jones to be engaged in conduct detrimental to the league.

In May, Jones voted in favor of extending Goodell's contract.

Some owners are urging league leaders to consider possible disciplinary action against Jones for conduct detrimental to the NFL, people familiar with the situation said earlier this week. "And we urge Mr. Jones to support the committee's deliberations, not attempt to sabotage them".
