Trying the Google Files Go App: Initial Impressions

Hopefully Google fleshes out the app with more functionality before a final release, but in the meantime, you can give the beta a go at the source link below. This unreleased app was earlier posted on Google Play by mistake. For those of you with 128GB phones, this may not be something you care about, but if you have a phone like the Moto X4 pictured above, this is exactly the type of app that could come in handy. Files To Go recommends you to remove the rarely-used apps from your phone to improve its speed.

The Files Go app will also list every app on your Android device that you are not using. As such, Files Go helps users get the most out of their phone's storage. Google's VP of product management, Caesar Sengupta, acknowledged the app's discovery on Twitter earlier and stated that Google has made it available to download from the Play Store once more in beta format, so don't be surprised if the app has a couple of quirky habits. This tab has a "clean cache" button that removes the app cache and displays how much data can be removed.

Android 5.0 users would be able to download and install the app in near future. If you have downloaded a lot of files, you can go to the Storage tab and delete those files. The feature uses Bluetooth connectivity of your device to enable wireless transfer - without requiring an active data connection. No complains here, nevertheless, as the app is still in beta testing phase so we hope Google can improve the stability. To use the app, both sender and receiver need to have the app opened and use the Send and Receive file option.

As its name suggests, the Files Go app is appeared to be a part of the family that already has YouTube Go and Android Go as the two major solutions for emerging markets.

Google has always been spot on with the User Interface and Files Go won't disappoint you even though it is in the development stage, at the moment.

Besides, the Files Go app lists all the apps that are unused on your device from the last four weeks. When it does though, we will be the first to let you know.
