"The Union minister under whom income tax department falls and other officials must explain the reason behind the frequent I-T raids in Tamil Nadu", said Stalin.

Meanwhile, in all the premises where searches were conducted, Tamil Nadu police provided security to I-T department officials.

Clarifying that raid was not conducted at his Chennai house, he said searches were on at his farmhouse in Puducherry and other places.

Also, the searches followed allegations covering aspects like shell companies, dubious investments, suspicious fund flow and its transfers and fudging of account. The Jaya TV management had then called the decision an assault on independent media.The Jaya TV network has a bouquet of channels including a news channel, general entertainment channel and a movie channel.

The I-T Department has listed the locations in Chennai, that were raided like a family directory of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, including her nephew and AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran and Vivek Jayaraman, Jaya TV MD.

Raid locations included Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Trichy, Coimbatore and other districts at properties belonging to Sasikala's family members and associates. "What will they find there", Dinakaran said.

Officers have reportedly been checking the office of a Tamil daily Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV network. "People who don't want us to remain in politics are threatening us through I-T raids".

According to Times Now, former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's Kodanad Estate has also been raided along with three properties belonging to Sasikala.

"This is a clear case of political vendetta", alleges an MLA in the TTV Dhinakaran faction.

IT officials are searching the residence of AIADMK's Karnataka unit secretary Pugalendhi who is a staunch supporter of Sasikala, in Bengaluru as well. Correspondingly, Namadhu MGR is also under the effective control of Sasikala and her community.

Following the factional divide in the ruling AIADMK, Jaya TV has been critical of the government led by chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam.
