Sadio Mane sidelined for Huddersfield Town's trip to Liverpool FC

Liverpool have announced that Sadio Mane could be out for up to six weeks after picking up an injury on worldwide duty.

"The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday", said a Liverpool statement.

Liverpool said the injury "could keep him out of action for up to six weeks" starting with Saturday's league game against arch-rivals Manchester United at Anfield.

Mane has started the season in blistering fashion and was crowned August's Premier League Player of the Month after three league goals.

Liverpool have notoriously struggled without Mane since his £34m switch from Southampton in 2016.

Liverpool average 2.2 Premier League goals with Mane in the team, compared to 1.6 goals in his absence, while he played for his country at the Nations Cup last January.

After recovering from a knee injury picked up in the Merseyside derby in April, Mane has picked up where he left off this term.

They have already had to cope without Mane for some of this season, domestically at least, after his red card against Manchester City led to a three-match ban.

Klopp has signed Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since the end of last season to add more depth to his attacking options.
