After a challenging 2016 marked by production delays and the recall of its new drone, chief executive officer Nick Woodman has focused on making GoPro's cameras easier to use and more appealing to a broader base of consumers.
The camera looks like an outsized version of the company's rectangular Hero cameras, making it compatible with numerous mounts that GoPro has made over the years.
Then there's all the stuff that GoPro introduced with the Hero 5 Black, which also carries over to the Hero 6. It's also ruggedised and waterproof to 10 metres as you'd expect.
The new HERO6 camera retails at $499.99, and the updated Karma drone and GoPro HERO6 camera can be purchased as a bundle for $1199.99. The model has a full range of sensors including Global Positioning System, an accelerometer, and a compass. It also advances GoPro's computer vision and machine learning capabilities, allowing the Hero6 to analyze visual scenes and sensor data for better QuikStories. The 6, like the 5, is waterproof to 33 feet and has a touch screen and voice control, but its WiFi is three times faster than the 5's.
Utilizing the OverCapture feature, users will be able to pull traditional HD-quality videos or stills from the overall image.
The Fusion is available now for pre-order, priced at US$699.99, and is expected to begin shipping in November.
According to Engadget, the Followfeature on the drone only follows the controller, so operators will want to keep that in mind when using the new Karma.
Finally, GoPro also today announced a new pocket-sized extension pole and tripod called Shorty; an updated floating handgrip with a quick-release mounting feature called The Handler; and the Bike Mount + Floaty, which the company said is "ideal" for point-of-view shots.
