Turkish FM criticizes Russian airstrikes on Idlib

Also on Monday, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia accused Russian Federation of killing one of its fighters and wounding others in strikes on a gas facility it captured two days earlier from the Daesh terror group in eastern Syria.

In the latest incident, the USA -allied SDF militia said Russian and Syrian forces appeared to be targeting its fighters because they recently captured the largest gas field in the region, Koniko, on September 23.

Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air power and Iranian-allied militias, have gained control of most of Deir al-Zor on the western side of the Euphrates River.

Major-General Igor Konashenkov of the Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement that the Russian and Syrian air forces did not bomb residential areas and accused the observatory of making up allegations and of sympathising with radical Islamist militants. Both have embedded special forces with their proxies and are supporting their advances with airstrikes.

Russian air strikes on northwest Syria's mainly extremist-controlled province of Idlib on Monday killed at least 37 civilians including 12 children, a Britain-based monitor said.

"In the last few days, after drone reconnaissance and confirmation via other channels, Russian planes struck 10 terrorist targets in Idlib Province", Konashenkov said.

Russian Federation denied it had attacked populated areas in its recent raids, and said the militants targeted where part of the Al-Nusra Front.

A safe zone agreed by Syrian regime allies Russian Federation and Iran and rebel backer Turkey was implemented in parts of opposition-held Eastern Ghouta in late July.

Elsewhere, warplanes continued Sunday to pound Syria's rural Idlib and Hama, where insurgents led by an al-Qaida-linked group began an offensive against government troops in the area.

Activists and monitoring groups reported airstrikes in Aleppo, Idlib and Hama provinces, as well as clashes between rebels and pro-government forces in northern Syria and on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus.
