Uber Regroups After London Taxi Setback as Lyft Signals Interest

While we haven't been asked to make any changes, we'd like to know what we can do.

An Uber spokesman said: 'We plan to file an appeal, we stand ready and willing to talk to TfL and put things right for Londoners.

Transport officials in London say they will not renew Uber's license to operate in the city due to "a lack of corporate responsibility" in dealing with the ride hailing app's safety issues.

The Observer also understands that 20,000 Uber drivers have emailed the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who defended TfL's decision on Saturday amid a growing backlash.

On the other hand, James Farrar, the Uber Driver's union chairman, said that "It is a devastating decision and 120 thousand heard driving drivers in London, more than doubled that number has been in the last five years".

Alongside Uber's drivers, some of London's 3.5 million registered users expressed concern as to how TfL's decision would affect their lives.

It also accuses the British capital of being "closed to innovative companies", saying the ban "shows the world that London is far from being open". The "Save Your Uber in London" petition is the fastest-growing United Kingdom petition this year and now has more than 640,000 signatures.

On Friday Uber stated its intent to appeal the decision (meaning Uber will continue to operate as normal for the foreseeable future) and started an online petition to drum up support among its customers in London.

"We have always followed TfL rules on reporting serious incidents, with a dedicated team that works closely with the Metropolitan Police".

He said Uber needs to offer "decent pay and conditions for its staff", and "there is an issue about safety". "They have let down their drivers and customers". Saturday night the Save Your Uber in London campaign on the Change.org website had gained almost 600,000 signatures.

The recent London ban came as a big blow to Uber which operates in 633 cities worldwide. So while Uber drivers' jobs are in jeopardy, they will still be able to work for a while, and, in the case that Uber wins an appeal, might never lose their ability to work at all.

Fred Jones responded by saying Uber had revolutionised the taxi market in London and the rest of the United Kingdom, actually improving safety for passengers and drivers - not harming it.

Dave Prentis told Sky's Sunday with Paterson programme that Uber is a new development and "looks great on paper", but added: "What you can't ignore is the safety of the people who are being carried". He told employees the company needed to act with integrity but that he did not believe Uber had done everything it was accused of in London.
