The incident took place around 1.30pm on September 11 when an Army group was on its way from the National Security Guards base at Manesar to Nizamuddin railway station.

As the traffic stopped, the army jawan walked up to the woman to seek an explanation for her rash driving and refusal to give them way. The subedar has claimed that the woman was driving the vehicle in a rash manner and that she did not give them space to overtake the auto despite blowing the horn a number of times.

Action against the woman, identified as Smriti Kalra, was taken after the video of her slapping the Army men went viral on the social media. "She hurled abuses at the Army", the FIR said. He got down to speak to her but she abused him and also slapped him a couple of times, they said.

"Without any provocation from our side, the woman started hurling abuses and slapped me and my driver for 5-7 minutes". She apparently blamed the constable for being an Army personnel after which he came back to the truck and sat at the driver's seat. Police officers said that Kalra was stuck in a traffic snarl just before the incident and had tried to reverse her vehicle and overtake another auto, but was stalled by the Army truck stopping behind her.

The army then reported the incident to the Delhi Police, who arrested her on charges of "causing hurt to deter a public servant". The police have also seized her vehicle.
