Time Warner Cable subscriber records stored on Amazon server without a password

CCTV footage, presumably of BroadSoft's workers in Bengaluru, India-where the breach is believed to have originated-was also discovered on the Amazon bucket.
The researchers found two Amazon S3 buckets linked to BroadSoft, a global communications company that partners with service providers, including AT&T and TWC.
The leaked records records do not represent individual customers, meaning that fewer than 4 millions customers' personal information was revealed. While it's unlikely that multiple BroadSoft customers have anything to worry about, this incident will undermine confidence in the unified comms specialist and make potential suitors wary about potential security breaches that could, in the future, lead to legal action and compensation claims.
Sensitive information about more than four million users of an app created by Time Warner Cable has been accidentally exposed online.
Charter Communications bought Time Warner Cable previous year and changed the name to Spectrum. "Other databases also have billing addresses, phone numbers etc. for hundreds of thousands of TWC customers". "In this case engineers accidentally leaked not only customer and partner data but also internal credentials that criminals could have easily used to monitor or access company's network and infrastructure".
The BroadSoft data was not properly configured to allow public access in AWS, Kromtech said. One of those needs, for Time Warner at least, was storing customer data, and BroadSoft made a decision to accomplish that task by dumping it into an Amazon server bucket with no password.
The data included usernames, email addresses, MAC addresses, device serial numbers and financial transaction information, although it doesn't appear that social security numbers or credit card information was involved.
"There is no indication that any Charter systems were impacted", Charter said.
"Protecting customer privacy is of the utmost importance to us", the firm said.
The Auburn Police Department said customers who have been with the cable-network since 2010 and have used the MyTWC app are most at risk. BroadSoft tells Gizmodo that it locked down its Amazon data (Charter says it was taken down) and hasn't seen evidence that intruders accessed the information.
