Blake Bortles benching could signal end of National Football League career

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jaguars aren't changing quarterbacks after all. Henne's outing was unimpressive - in five series in the first half, he went 8 of 14 for 73 yards.

Blake Bortles, on the other hand, went 12/16 with one touchdown pass, but he also threw what can only be described as a careless interception. Following an offseason of optimistic praise from new football tsar Tom Coughlin and coach Doug Marrone, Bortles performed poorly in Jacksonville's first two preseason games.

"I've got to do the best job for the organization and best job for the team". Henne then opened up the third quarter with a decent drive that ended up stalling at midfield. However, he regressed last season, throwing for just 3,905 yards and 23 touchdowns, with 16 interceptions, on more attempts than in 2015. I'm going to take a real hard look at it and see where we're at.

Henne has not thrown a pass in a single regular season game since being benched three weeks into the 2014 season.

Marrone had benched Bortles after a lackluster performance in an August 17 loss to Tampa Bay, as the quarterback continued to struggle with turnovers - he had a five-interception practice.

Henne has served as Bortles' backup since Bortles became the starter. While the Jaguars have great players at several key positions, they still have a lot of questions to answer at the quarterback position. "It's tough. I think you're getting dealt a certain hand and it's your decision and you chose to do what you want with it". As the preseason wore on Bortles, he and Henne ended up in a competition for who would gain the starting position. I think our relationship, being supportive of him and obviously wanting the team to do well and be successful, is all I could really do.

"Blake has the ability to extend plays for us, which I think is going to be helpful in what we have to get done", Marrone said.

"I'm going to go play as hard as I can".

"I kind of understand this business after 10 years", Henne said Saturday afternoon before the Jaguars' practice at Daily's Place Flex Field adjacent to EverBank Field.
