Journalist missing feared dead after going in inventor's submarine

In what appears to be taking form as a murder mystery gripping the entirety of Scandinavia, and beyond, a Danish submarine hobbyist was taken into custody over the weekend after he allegedly sank the vessel that is now at the heart of an investigation into a missing Swedish journalist.
Peter Madsen, the owner of the private submarine that sank in waters off Copenhagen on Friday, has accepted his preliminary detention on suspicion of involvement in the death of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, as a report emerged of the vessel sailing with its lights switched off on Thursday night.
Sunday: The raised submarine is brought to land and police technicians begin their examination, but no body is on board.
The vessel was recovered on Saturday in Koge Bay, south of Copenhagen, at a depth of seven meters, and taken into harbor. On Sunday, they said Madsen had given another explanation, but declined to elaborate.
The boat left on Thursday evening at around 19 from Refshaleøen, where some of Kim Wall's friends were present to wave goodbye.
What is likely the last picture taken of Wall, showed the freelance journalist, smiling, aboard the sub and standing alongside Madsen, whose back is turned, just before the Nautilus departed on its ill-fated Thursday voyage.
Madsen initially told authorities he dropped off Wall prior to the sub's sinking, but police say Madsen has since changed his statement, though they haven't elaborated on how, the BBC reported.
"There are no persons in the submarine, dead or alive", said Jens Moller, from Copenhagen Police. As he was being rescued, the researcher's boat sank to the bottom of the sea. "But I guess that was pretty good because otherwise I still would have been down there".
Madsen made headlines when he successfully financed the building of the 40-tonne, 18-metre Nautilus through crowdfunding, completing it in 2008.
