Nuclear power: Lavrov urge parties in Korean Peninsula to show maximum restraint

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday said a new United Nations resolution over North Korea said parties involved in tensions on the Korean peninsula can have dialogue when conditions are right. She says the US rejects any "moral equivalency" implied by that proposal.

The face-to-face meeting is the first since President Trump last week begrudgingly signed into law legislation that not only sanctions Russia, Iran, and North Korea, but also ties the president's hands from making changes to the penalties without congressional approval. The legislation, which had a veto-proof majority in Congress, slaps new sanctions against Russian Federation while also limiting the president's ability to lessen those sanctions.

Lavrov called for all parties in the Korean conflict to "show their utmost restraint" against using military force and conduct a "denuclearization" of the peninsula, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We want to work with them on areas that are serious national security interest to us while at the same time having this extraordinary issue of mistrust that divides us", the U.S.'s top diplomat said.

U.S. secretary of state discusses Kremlin's alleged collusion in last year's USA election with Russian FM Sergei Lavrov.

The new USA financial penalties come in response to Russia's military actions in Ukraine, where it is supporting armed separatists, and its meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.

"But what we're saying is that you will not get us to talk about your security if you just continue testing those missiles".

Both Tillerson and Lavrov said there were signs of improved engagement between the two countries on Syria, Ukraine and North Korea. Ryabkov said that he was disappointed in the behavior and policy of the administration of President Donald Trump, which follows the worst line of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and intensifies stances that affected bilateral ties previously.

Japan's new Foreign Minister Taro Kono and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov agreed Monday to craft specific projects for joint economic activities on Russian-held, Japanese-claimed islands off Hokkaido, a government official said.

"We would be interested to see what impression the USA special envoy has on the current state of affairs", Lavrov said.

Russian Federation has furiously denied reports, endorsed by U.S. intelligence agencies, that it attempted to swing last year's USA presidential in favour of the eventual victor, President Donald Trump. "The Russians have indicated some willingness to begin to talk with us about the way forward on Ukraine".
