Notorious 86-year-old jewel thief Doris Payne arrested again - at Walmart

An 86-year-old Georgia jewel thief stole $86 worth of miscellaneous items from Walmart, according to Georgia police.

Police said she then proceeded to take items from the electronics department and grocery section and put them in her shopping cart before she started hiding some of those items in a Walmart shopping bag. "We're talking about what an 86-year-old woman needs to survive on a day-to-day basis, food supplies and medical supplies". Payne has since been released on bail.

Doris Payne, who is believed to be the oldest jewel thief in the U.S., has once again been charged with theft.

In December, Payne was arrested at an upscale mall in suburban Atlanta for allegedly stealing a necklace. I regret getting caught, ' she said in her documentary.

According to a store employee, Payne didn't pay for items she is accused of putting in a Walmart shopping bag and in her purse, yet did pay for goods placed in her shopping cart.

"There's never been a day, that I went to steal, when I did not get what I went to do", Payne boasts in the documentary.

Payne is not new to this, she's true to this! Payne, whose career as a thief spanned six decades, was wearing a monitoring bracelet from a previous bust at the time of the arrest Monday.

It is unclear when Payne will appear in court on her latest shoplifting charge.

Officials claim that she has used at least 22 different aliases to help her steal during the course of her criminal career.

"We called and talked to (officials in North Carolina) and they decided they wouldn't extradite her, which is often the case for a bunch of reasons", McCullers said in an earlier interview with the Atlanta Constitution-Journal.

Payne was allegedly caught on video walking out of the high-end department store after slipping a $690 pair of Christian Dior earrings into her pocket.

Her scheme at jewelry stores was to pose as a wealthy woman that was charming and friendly.
