Russian Federation threatens counter actions over seized compounds

Russia may deport 30 US diplomats in a retaliatory move against the seizure of two Russian diplomatic compounds, a foreign ministry official said.

Mr Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the issue at the G-20 summit in Germany last week.

Russia would carry out the threat if no compromise was reached at a St Petersburg meeting later this month between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and US Under Secretary of State Thomas Shannon, Izvestia reported.

It is not clear which U.S. properties might be targeted, but they could possibly include a dacha complex owned by the United States embassy at Serebyany Bor outside Moscow.

Earlier reports said Moscow was also considering the seizure of US compounds in Russian Federation.

"This situation is just outrageous", Lavrov said, noting that the two diplomatic compounds confiscated by the Obama administration in December of 2016 have still not been released.

The measures were a response to alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

Rybakov said Tuesday that Moscow has prepared a "tough response" to Washington in retaliation for the arrest of Russian diplomatic property.

The paper also reports that while the administration plans to seize the American summer house in a forest region outside of Moscow and a warehouse in the center of the city, it will not touch the residence of the American ambassador and the American worldwide school in St. Petersburg.

According to the newspaper, while the administration plans to seize the American summer house in a forest region outside of Moscow and a warehouse in the center of the city, it will not touch the residence of the American ambassador and the American worldwide school in St. Petersburg.

Russia is ready to expel about 30 USA diplomats and seize U.S. state property in retaliation for Washington's sanctions, Russian officials say. "Now, we must draw the line and take tit-for-tat measures", the deputy head of the Russian Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, Andrey Klimov, told Izvestia. The US closed Russian intelligence compounds in NY and Maryland.

Russia is "outraged" that the United States has not yet resolved issues following the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats in December. On July 6, three senators from the Foreign Relations Committee sent President Trump a letter asking him not to return the compounds.
