Arsenal transfer target Riyad Mahrez furious with Leicester City

Arsenal, though, lead the race to sign the Algeria interntional, with Arsene Wenger keen to revamp his squad following an underwhelming campaign in the 2016/17 season.

Speaking on the same day that Mahrez returned for pre-season training, Shakespeare insisted that Leicester have not received any bids for the 2016 PFA player of the year and made it clear that he expects the winger to conduct himself professionally while his future remains unclear.

If bringing in major additions is a priority, so should be getting rid of Riyad Mahrez without being too stubborn, as a few million pounds earned here may cost Leicester City a price that they won't be able to afford.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has now urged Mahrez to be professional if he wants to avoid being dropped to the bench at the King Power Stadium.

"Can it be disappointing when a player comes out publically?" The Gunners do not want to pay anything over £35 million to secure the Algerian winger's services are unwilling to meet Leicester City's £50 million valuation of the player. Shakespeare has though warned Mahrez not to down tools to force through a move. Him coming out, we know where it stands, but ultimately he's contracted to the football club.

"We have to be professional with him but more importantly he has to be committed and I think he has to show supporters, staff and players that".

'With making a statement like that of course it's how you're accepted by the other players, ' Shakespeare added.

"Knowing what Riyad's capable of and the tight links he's got within our group, they will be fine with him".

He said: "If he's selected he has to perform and if he doesn't show commitment he won't play".
