Andromeda Single Player DLC Reportedly Canceled

Until today, that is, when Kotaku reported that the hoax actually got it right: According to three sources "familiar with BioWare's plans", Andromeda will not get any single-player DLC.

While reporting that news, I had been pretty sure that Mass Effect: Andromeda wouldn't be getting single-player DLC. This is definitely disturbing and disheartening news because I know many people were looking forward to exploring other parts of Andromeda.

To add insult to the injury, BioWare included dangling plot threads in "Mass Effect: Andromeda" that gamers expected to be explained in full in future DLCs. This might be due to the polarizing reception the game received when it first launched. Some of our favorite content for previous Bioware titles such as Lair of the Shadow Broker, Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC and Dragon Age: Inquisition's Trespasser are all good, if not great, packages of content that elevate the titles that they are attached to. However while it wasn't exactly awful, it did not live up to the hype and it seems that many gamers were a bit disappointed with it, so much so that apparently the future of the franchise has been put on hold. The source of this was a now-deleted Facebook post (archived image) from a company called Sinclair Networks, which claimed it was working on single-player story-based DLC for Andromeda until the project was killed. There are few people left at BioWare Montreal who could even work on it.

It's unclear why BioWare has not yet talked about these plans publicly - and the company did not respond to multiple requests for comment over the past two weeks - but this will no doubt come as sad news to Mass Effect fans.

Producer Fernando Melo took to Twitter to confirm BioWare doesn't "hire fake companies" to work on DLC and patches, while producer Mike Gamble tweeted he's "never heard of Sinclair Networks".

The future for Mass Effect, however, looks dismal.
