Murray will be fit to play, insists Lendl

Defending champion Andy Murray has pulled out of his final warm-up match before Wimbledon because of a sore hip.

Even if he's healthy enough to play at Wimbledon, his lack of preparation on grass prior to the event is a concern.

Murray is still expected to play on Friday before he begins the defence of his Wimbledon title on 3 July.

"Andy lost last week to Jordan Thompson, who (was) 90 in the world, and everyone says it's the worst loss ever, but the guy winning the US Open golf could be 100th in the world and no one says anything but "well played".

"I hope so, that's the plan", said Murray who is drawn against Russian-born Kazakh lucky loser Alexander Bublik in the first round on Monday.

Lendl added that Murray is "hitting the ball really well" and that he's satisfied by Murray's performance in practice.

1 was scheduled to play Lucas Pouille in an exo today at Hurlingham but had to withdraw due to the issue.

French Open semi-finalist Murray was the favourite to win the Aegon Championships, which finished on Sunday, and win a third successive Queen's Club crown but crashed at the first hurdle.

But he did admit that Murray has not had enough practise, saying: "The first match on grass is always tricky". I thought a year ago was more hard because in two weeks we didn't finish one practice on our own terms, we were always chased off by the rain.

"I don't care how good you are".

Aches and pains are nothing new for Murray, or for any professional tennis player, but the timing is inopportune.
