Federer crushes Zverev to clinch ninth Halle title

Roger Federer didn't play his best tennis this week in Halle before the final, but he was simply incredible against Alexander Zverev, beating the young German 6-1 6-3 in just 52 minutes for his 9th crown in Halle!

He will now play local favourite Alexander Zverev, who beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the other semi-final.

However, 21-year-old Khachanov rallied and force two set points which would have taken the match into a decider before Federer, an 18-time Grand Slam victor, closed out the tie-break.

Already boasting a win over Federer in their head-to-head record, the world number 12 is also looking for his fourth title of the year and his first at Halle, having lost in the final last year.

Federer and Khachanov traded breaks in the first two games but the Swiss made amends by grabbing a second one to restore his advantage, clinching the first set on his second set point.

The 28-ranked Khachanov fired a backhand long in the breaker to send Federer through to a showdown with Zverev.

"It was perhaps not always very lovely to watch, but it's good to be in the final in the second tournament after my return". He's playing really good tennis.

However, the Swiss ace will have to get past the talented Zverev.

Federer required just 53 minutes as he destroyed Zverev and will be much fancied to continue his superb form in 2017 when he arrives in Wimbledon as the number three seed.

"Roger is the best player of all time on grass, it will be a very hard match", said the young German.

Federer will go for his ninth title in the German city, which would mark the first time he has won a tournament as many times.

While speaking about his opponent Federer said, "It was all a little uncertain because I don't know him that well".
