Pak violates ceasefire in Poonch sector

Yesterday, the Pakistan Army continued to initiate unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars in Jammu and Kashmir's Naushera sector along the Line of Control (LoC).

An eerie silence prevailed on the occasion of Eid along the LoC, which has witnessed 20 ceasefire violations, a BAT attack and two infiltration bids in the month of June in which four people, including three jawans, were killed.

In the third such attack this year, a team of Pakistani special forces on Thursday sneaked 600 metres across the (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. "But yes, there is no conclusive evidence yet", a senior officer said.

The official said that the a special class of dagger and a knife was meant to carry out quick mutilation and beheading of jawans killed.

BAT operations are usually the handiwork of the SSG commandos trained for covert and irregular missions across the LoC, in conjunction with terrorists, after careful reconnaissance and study of vulnerable spots and patrolling patterns of Indian troops. Indian troops effectively retaliated, he said.

"The resolute action of our soldiers didn't let their nefarious plan (of mutilating bodies and recording it on camera) succeed", officer said. In the firefight, two Indian soldiers - 34-year-old Naik Jadhav Sandip of Aurangabad and 24-year-old Sepoy Mane Savan Balku of Kolhapur - were killed.
