Spanish state prosecutor accuses Jose Mourinho of tax fraud

Jose Mourinho is being accused of defrauding the Spanish government of up to 3.3 million pounds from 2011 and 2012 and has yet to give a statement regarding the claim.

Meawnhile, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been accused of evading 3.3 million euro ($3.7 million) in tax at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, the reigning Ballon d'Or award victor, last week said he's being unfairly treated by Spain's tax authorities, whose "persecution" has made him determined to leave Real Madrid and the country, a source confirmed to ESPN FC.

Since 2013, Mourinho has spent the past four years managing British football clubs - Chelsea from 2013 to 2015 and then Manchester United since 2016.

But former Madrid star Figo expresses that no player is bigger than the club, but believes Ronaldo will remain at the club through next season.

He will appear in court at the end of July to defend himself, although there is no formal charge at this stage.

"To this date, neither the Spanish tax authorities, nor the public prosecutor have contacted Jose Mourinho or his advisers who were hired for the inspection process", the statement said.

As Real Madrid coach from 2011 to 2012, the Portuguese coach is alleged to have not declared income from image rights deals to obtain an "illicit benefit", according to Spanish prosecutors.

The Portuguese superstar is "unhappy" in Spain after allegations surfaced that he had committed tax fraud worth over 14.7million euros, which he has denied, saying "I have a clear conscience".

Messi and his father were both given 21-month jail sentences but neither will go to prison as the misdeed is considered a first offense.

In 2016, Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano received a one-year suspended prison sentence for tax fraud while Barca superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar are both now awaiting court decisions. The Spanish Supreme Court found Lionel Messi guilty of similar crimes past year.
