Home-grown instant messaging application Hike on Tuesday forayed into the digital payments business with the introduction of the latest version of its application.
The wallet is integrated with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and allows users to perform bank-to-bank transfers. "Not only are we the first (messaging app) to offer payments in the country but this also makes Hike the biggest UPI platform in the country because we have over 100 million registered users", Hike Messenger Founder and CEO Kavin Bharti Mittal told BusinessLine.
He added that the features will work with the QR code rolled out to merchants (under the direction set by the Reserve Bank of India), thus enabling people to make payments seamlessly by just scanning the QR code and pay using Hike wallets. Kavin, son of Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Mittal, said Hike has been working on the new update for over six months.
