Robert Mueller hires 13 lawyers to handle Russian Federation investigation

US officials have also disclosed to The Washington Post that FBI general counsel James A. Baker had advised former FBI director James Comey not to tell Trump that he was under federal investigation.

Mueller is also investigating whether President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

In a later tweet, the president seemed to confirm he is under investigation for possible obstruction of justice.

Robert Mueller, a former FBI director, is leading an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Deomcratic Sen. Dick Durbin said Friday that President Donald Trump will put the country at the "brink of a constitutional crisis" if he fires special counsel Robert Mueller.

There has been no indication that Mueller told Trump to fire Comey.

Comey told lawmakers he gave notes he had taken after that meeting and his other eight meetings or phone calls he had with Trump to Mueller.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the release of that statement by Rosenstein, whether it was in response to recent stories that suggested the President was under investigation for obstruction of justice, or some other reason.

Mueller's friendship with Comey and Mueller's selection of several investigators who have made campaign donations to Democrats are among the issues Gingrich is raising as problematic. The attorney general was at a White House meeting when the notification came from Rosenstein, prompting the enraged President to scold the attorney general for the turn of events.

Trump's tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned the organization's officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Comey had presented no evidence to prove that Moscow meddled in the USA election, adding that Washington had tried to influence Russian elections "year after year". As the pressure mounts, Trump is defending himself on social media.

The interest in Kushner's activities by the special counsel's office is no more extensive than the FBI's interest in his multiple roles on both the Trump campaign and transition team, which CNN reported last month.

Trump was strongly critical of some of Comey's testimony but said Comey had vindicated him by saying while he was at the agency, Trump was not the subject of the FBI's Russian Federation probe. They include Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, and his former deputy director, Richard Ledget, the Post reported.
