Rodman says he's going to NKorea to open a door

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (2nd L) watches a basketball game between former U.S. NBA basketball players and North Korean players of the Hwaebul team of the DPRK with Dennis Rodman (R) at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium in this undated photo released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang January 9, 2014. The U.S. State Department told CNN that it was aware of Rodman's travel to North Korea but that he was not there in any official capacity.

Rodman didn't respond to CNN's questions about whether he would be meeting Kim during this trip, and wouldn't say if he was delivering a message from the US President to Pyongyang.

"US President Donald Trump has said the world will never see North Korea reach the final stage of developing nuclear weapons that could reach the US, but recent strategic weapon tests have proved the country is not far away from testing an ICBM".

Kim is known to be an avid fan of basketball and Rodman.

It comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, which is now detaining four Americans.

Four Americans are now being detained in North Korea.

"If you don't ever want me to go back there again, I won't go back", Rodman said to ESPN in March.

A top expert has claimed North Korea's military is just one step away from launching a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the US. Rodman told Kim he has a "friend for life". Thousands of US troops are based in South Korea, and the Demilitarized Zone between the North and South is one of the most heavily fortified borders in the world.

Who knows? Perhaps "basketball diplomacy" will end up saving us all in the end.

The North has occasionally jailed USA citizens on charges ranging from hostile acts to illegal entry, and released them only after visits by high-profile figures including former president Bill Clinton.

Analyst Daniel Pinkston, a lecturer at Troy University, said he did not believe that Rodman was going as a back-channel emissary from Trump, despite United States media speculation. North Korea is expecting another visit by former National Basketball Association bad boy Rodman on Tuesday in what would b.
