Rijiju appeals all Indian insurgent groups to come mainstream

As per the media reports the chairman of the pro-freedom faction of National Socialist Council of Nagalim NSCN (K) Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang, who was know for his no compromise stand, passed away at a hospital in the insurgent group's military base at Takka, in Myanmar's Kachin state on Friday.

"It was encouraging to learn that Khaplang had, a few months back conveyed his willingness to have a dialoguewith the government provided issues of substance were discussed", he said.

The National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) in a condolence message issued by its president D Yamrok stated that Khaplang will always be remembered as a great revolutionary leader.

National General Secretary of BJP Ram Madhav tweeted: "News is that NSCN (K) leader Khaplang is dead..."

"And that this protracted problem be resolved during our lifetime and not to bequeath it to the future generations", he said. "I can not comment anything on the Myanmarese Nagas but I am appealing to the Indian Nagas in NSCN-K to return and surrender and government of India is ready to rehabilitate them provided they are ready to abjure violence", he said. In a condolence message released on Saturday, Nagaland CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu said that the Nagaland government has been sending delegations to Myanmar to persuade him. (Retd) S. Singnya, Kedahge, FGN in a joint press statement had this to say of their old comrade Khaplang, "You had not only run your race well but inspired many of us to run and keep running".

Rijiju said this on Saturaday while interacting with the newsmen here on the sidelines of a programme and added that the Government of India had banned the NSCN (K) in 2016 by a special notification after the organisation abrogated from the undergoing ceasefire agreement.

Zeliang said, "This, I had stated, would be the best solution for the Nagas living on both sides of India and Myanmar so that the Nagas would see permanent peace and march forward with progress and development".

Born in April 1940 in Waktham village, east of Myanmar's Pangsau Pass, Khaplang joined the Naga nationalist movement as early as 1964 and was one of the key people in the formation of the NSCN.
