BJP ally Shiv Sena today hit out at Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the farmers' unrest in the state, saying instead of sitting on a fast here, the CM should have visited Mandsaur to comfort the farmers. Instead of offering loan waivers and trying to meet the demands of the farmers, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has chose to offer a fast to restore peace in the state. Chouhan said his each breath in last few hours has been taken for the development of Madhya Pradesh.

Preparations began at BHEL Dussehra Maidan soon after Chouhan declared he will observe fast.

The Opposition has slammed Chouhan's decision to go on fast. Angry farmers have been blocking roads, vandalising property and setting vehicles on fire.

Farmers' protests that started in the state on June 1, demanding better prices for their produce and debt relief, turned violent on June 6 when five farmers were killed in police firing in Mandsaur.

A wary central government, meanwhile, asked states adjoining Madhya Pradesh to keep strict vigil against the spread of farmers' protest. "I will sit on a fast in the open and run my government so that farmers can approach me for discussion", he had said during his press conference.
