Subaru WRX STI Type RA teased, to debut on June 8

Subaru hinted at the auto on social media, simply captioning a photo of the BRZ with STI-branded carbonfibre rear wing with "Stay tuned...6/8/17".

STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International and denotes the company's performance division.

Subaru has released a teaser photo, revealing the WRX STI Type RA's carbon fiber roof, but Motor1 has even more details about what we can expect.

Rumours about the car's production were all but confirmed via Subaru US Twitter account which tweeted a picture of what is believe to be the BRZ STI.

Subaru first introduced the Type RA nameplate on a Japanese-market WRX in 1993 (a 1998 model is shown above). Most rear drive performance cars would have a big problem, but the STI had some fast laps on the rain-soaked track.

Could this be the Subaru BRZ we've all been waiting for?

Subaru is aiming to set a Nurburgring record for sedans, but the problem is, this WRX STI Type RA NBR Special is far from a production auto. Subaru likely could push this as high as 350 horses without any major mods, but I assume it'll only jump to 325 at the most. The official unveil of the vehicle is set for June 8 and we will learn all then. Subaru is shooting to break the four-door-sedan lap record on the 'Ring this summer. Like the STI Type RA to be revealed, the name plate has always been used to signify it being more lightweight and hardcore than your standard WRX.
