Curry, Durant power Warriors past Cavs in Game 1, 113-91

Curry, Durant power Warriors past Cavs in Game 1, 113-91

"They constantly break records - last year being 73-9 [a regular season record]; this year starting the playoffs 13-0".

Stephen Curry bombed in a pair of 3-pointers in a 13-0 flurry to begin the second half as the Golden State Warriors ran away from the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-91 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.

LeBron James has 26 points and 15 rebounds, Kyrie Irving has 22 points and Kevin Love has 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who have been outscored in every quarter and are shooting 37 percent.

The pair overshadowed Cavs megastar LeBron James (28 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists), who neared a triple-double but also committed eight of Cleveland's 19 turnovers.

Kevin Durant impressed as the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-91 in the first game of the National Basketball Association finals.

It's another element of the formula Kerr and his staff believes will work against any team: Play nasty defense, and the offense will follow.

In NBA history, no team has won more games in a three-year span.

Durant, in his first NBA Finals for the Warriors, drove through the lane untouched for dazzling dunks time and again, while also posting eight rebounds and eight assists in addition to his points haul.

"They're the best I've ever seen", said Cavs coach Tyronn Lue, who sounded honest. "I'm trying to do other things other than just scoring so I can help my team put us in the best situations to win", Curry said. "We've still got a long way to go to win this series".

The Cavs were actually successful in limiting the Warriors three-point game, holding them to just 10-for-30 from behind the arc but losing the turnover battle by such a large margin made this one nearly impossible to win for the CAvs. But for them to have a realistic chance, he may also need Durant to play worse, and after making a decision that brought upon him the scorn of the sports world, Durant shows no sign of letting up, nor do any of the Warriors after their 3-1 catastrophe a year ago. Will the Warriors get revenge and bounce back after blowing a 3-1 series lead in last year's NBA Finals? He averaged a quiet 13.8 points in the first two rounds, then busted out for 22.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per game against Boston in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Warriors had four consecutive dunks in one stretch of the first, Kevin Durant finished the period with 10 points and five assists, and Andre Iguodala's 3-pointer at the buzzer of the quarter gave the Warriors their biggest lead. "You know they're not going to give up at all", he said on court.

The Cavs, meanwhile, had 20 turnovers, eight coming from LeBron James.

And so, right now, we have one data point in the progress of our experiment.

In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Durant proved to his critics that he isn't riding anyone's coattails in this series. Look no further than Durant to discover what makes this third championship meeting between the Cavs and Warriors different from the previous two.

His team, the Warriors, had just four turnovers in the game (Curry had two) - an NBA Finals record.

Kerr has been out since Game 3 of the Warriors' first-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers. You're not going to see us getting ahead of ourself. I would rather have him like this than like he was going into the last Final.
