Morse heads to DL after SFG-Nats brawl

The incident seems to have carried over from a 2014 beef between these two Major League Baseball players. Both are appealing their suspensions, meaning they are eligible to play Tuesday night.

The situation is likely to drag on for a while as the two players appeal their suspensions and it is unclear when Major League Baseball will give a final judgment on the situation.

Strickland hit Harper in the hip with a 98 miles per hour pitch and the Washington slugger charged the mound, wildly firing his helmet and trading punches to the head with Strickland during the Nationals' 3-0 win Monday over the San Francisco Giants. Harper charged the mound Monday after Strickland hit him with a pitch.

The key takeaway from Monday's plunking and benches-clearing brawl was this: Strickland acted alone when he purposely hit Harper in the right hip with a 98 miles per hour fastball, still holding a grudge for Harper's two homers (and reactions rounding the bases) in the 2014 National League Division Series. Strickland threw a 98 miles per hour fastball directly at Harper, intentionally hitting him on the side.

Harper says he didn't like being hit, but respected Strickland for not throwing at his face. Again, Harper's decision to charge the mound was inexcusable because baseball has to move beyond that, but at least it was understandable in the heat of the moment.

After the fight on Monday, Strickland essentially said those incidents were in his head while pitching to Harper.

"I didn't know what to expect, really, but obviously it's a little much", the reliever told reporters. The two players had a history with one another, which is part of the reason why emotions were so high.

Clippard pitched for the Nats in that series, and as a casual observer of Monday's action, "it certainly did look like" Strickland went after Harper intentionally.

There are still two games left in the series between the two teams in San Francisco - next up is Tuesday night at 10:15 p.m. ET.

A former teammate on the Washington Nationals, Yankees reliever Tyler Cilppard found those words to be uniquely Harper. However, the most severe consequences may have come for Giants' outfielder Mike Morse, who was hit heavily with teammate Jeff Samardzija in the ensuing bench-clearing brawl.

Rather than going to first base, Harper instead charged the mound, resulting in both players getting ejected from the game. "You never know. I'm very thankful for Mikey Mo".

"I know Buster has our back as a group and a team."

"What I don't like to see is a lot of chirping and guys just talking crap to each other". “Buster was definitely shocked and not looking for that to happen.”.

"Just focused on playing the game today", Posey said.
