Microsoft Co-founder Paul Allen Unveils World's Largest Airplane

The 50-foot-tall aircraft is created to transport rockets carrying satellites into space and it emerged from its Mojave Air and Space Port hangar in California on Wednesday, CNN reported.

Powered by huge passenger jet engines, Stratolaunch will be able to carry a rocket and will be capable of launching satellites and possibly even humans into low-Earth orbit, Mr Allen said at its launch six years ago.

The aeronautics company founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen provided the first look at the world's largest airplane based on wingspan.

The world's largest aircraft features a twin fuselage design and the wings measure 117 meters and created to carry payloads that weigh up to 2,49,476kg. Called Stratolaunch, the plane has some impressive stats: a wingspan of 385 feet, or longer than a football field, a height of 50 feet.

This could "significantly reduce the long wait times traditionally experienced between the construction of a satellite and the opportunity to launch it into space", Allen wrote past year.

The aircraft is 72.5 meters from nose to tail and stands 15.2 meters tall from the ground to the top of the tail. The world's largest airplane was supposed to enter test flight stage a year ago but that didn't happen.

After the fueling tests, the plane will undergo engine runs, taxi tests, and finally first flight. To accomplish this, Stratolaunch announced a partnership with Orbital ATK, who will provide the first few vehicles that will launch from the carrier.

The giant plane is created to launch rockets into orbit from an altitude of around 30,000 feet. It can take off with a total weight of 1,300,000lb, and carry maximum payload of up to 550,000lb. We have already started preparations for launch vehicle delivery to our Mojave facilities.

Stratolaunch aircraft that is created to carry satellites into low-Earth orbit powered by six engines of the 747 aircraft, rolled out for the first time Wednesday.

"Today, we're moving the Stratolaunch aircraft out of the hangar - for the first time ever - to conduct aircraft fueling tests".

Jean Floyd, Stratolaunch's chief executive officer, said the goal is to have a launch demonstration by 2019.
