Iranian president calls US relations 'a curvy road'

The Iranian president criticized Trump's decision to visit Saudi Arabia, noting that the kingdom "has never seen a ballot box" while Iran just had another successful presidential election in which over 40 million people voted.

"The Americans do not know our region, that's what the catch is", he said.

Mr Qassemi added that the U.S. and its allies "should know that Iran is a democratic, stable and powerful country" and that it promotes "peace, good neighbourliness, and the creation of a world opposed to violence and extremism". Trump, meanwhile, has threatened to tear up the deal.

President Zuma said South Africa looks forward to working with Iran under President Rouhani to consolidate relations and implement existing agreements. Rouhani said. "Who can say the region will experience total stability without Iran?"

Iranians voting in the country's first presidential election since its nuclear deal with world powers as incumbent Hassan Rouhani faced a staunch challenge from a hard-line opponent

Mr Rouhani won decisively with 57 percent of the vote on Friday, with promises of more engagement with the outside world, more economic opportunities for Iran's youth, as well as social justice, individual freedoms and political tolerance. "But the foundation of power is national strength and this only happens through elections", Rouhani said.

This is all a showing of the Saudi's strong support to Trump after the ties reached a low point during the Obama Administration, which reached out to Iran with the signing of the Nuclear Accord.

Despite Trump's confrontational rhetoric, Iran had nothing to do with the terror attacks on the U.S. in September 2001, or subsequent attacks in Europe - including Germany, France and England.

While Trump called the Iranian nuclear agreement "the worst deal ever" while campaigning, since taking office he has refused to rip it up, concluding, rightly, that he would be blamed for destroying the world's best - and now only - hope for keeping nuclear weapons out of Iranian hands.

"Unfortunately, under the hostile and aggressive policies of the American statesmen, we are witnessing a renewed strengthening of terrorist groups in the region and miscalculation of the dictatorships which support these groups", Qassemi said.

The president also said that the era of interfering in other countries' affairs, waging wars and funding terrorism is over and fighting terrorism is the only way ahead.

Rouhani, a pragmatist who won last week's presidential election, hit back hard by dismissing the summit as a "ceremonial (event) that had no political value and will bear no results".

An Iranian journalist who had spoken to Raisi supporters after the election told Reuters they were furious at the way the president had spoken about their candidate and themselves.

Trump repeatedly has criticized Iran in speeches on his first foreign trip. "When they imposed sanctions on us, they made a mistake", he said.

"We are waiting for this government to settle".

Iran plays a crucial role in fighting terrorism and ensuring regional security and stability and it will continue the same under the 12th government.
