UP home secretary sees 'conspiracy' behind surge in Saharanpur violence

Slamming the opposition after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was denied to visit riot-hit Saharanpur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday asserted that the former is a master in political tourism and photo ops which is why he made a decision to visit Saharanpur.

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Friday renewed his attack on the Yogi Adityanath government saying, it has failed to maintain law and order in the state.

Reacting strongly to failure of the police to control caste clash in Saharanpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday suspended both District Magistrate, NP Singh and SSP Subhash Chandra Dubey, while the Divisional Commissioner and the range DIG have been removed.

UP Home Secretary Mani Prasad Mishra on Thursday said that the clashed in Saharanpur have intermittently reported over the past few years.

"Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has not been given permission to visit Saharanpur", said Senior Superintendent of Police, Saharanpur, Bablu Kumar.

The Saharanpur district authorities had yesterday refused permission to Gandhi to visit the strife-torn district.

Shabbirpur village has become the hotbed of clashes between Dalits and Thakurs or Rajputs, which led to the death of a Dalit man earlier this month.

Meanwhile, UP Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said the government will not allow Rahul Gandhi to do a photo op in the state.

Avinish Awasthi, PK Pande will be new DM of Saharanpur and SSP Muzaffarnagar, Babloo Kumar, has been posted as new district police chief of Saharanpur.

Saharanpur has witnessed widespread caste based clashes repeatedly this month.

Had the administration permitted the installation of an Ambedkar statue as well as a procession on "Maharana Pratap Jayanti", the violence would have never occurred, she had said. In between, on May 9, about 12 police vehicles were set ablaze and 12 policemen injured. The state government has sent a preliminary report on the clashes that took place in Saharanpur where two lives were lost and more than 40 people were injured.

The fresh violence took place soon after BSP supremo Mayawati's visit to Shabbirpur village.
