Trump Reportedly Asked Intelligence Chiefs to Deny Collusion Evidence

The Senate Intelligence Committee has announced two new subpoenas against former national security adviser Michael Flynn to compel him to turn over documents related to his contact with the Russians, adding that Flynn risks being held in contempt of Congress if he does not comply with the requests.

A day later, the committee issued two subpoenas against Flynn's businesses seeking records that could hopefully fill in the blanks as it continues to look into the Kremlin's collusion with the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump fired Flynn for making misleading statements to Vice President Michael Pence about his contacts with Russian officials.

The investigation focuses on whether Flynn and other Trump associates colluded with Russian Federation to boost the Republican candidate in the 2016 elections.

The Senate intelligence committee also has issued subpoenas to Flynn to get him to cooperate.

Brennan said he was one of the first U.S. officials to warn Moscow about its activities and to cease efforts to affect the election's outcome. Moreover, he stated that the committee has moved forward with the probe.

He says that last summer he was increasingly concerned that Russian officials were perhaps trying to enlist the cooperation of people in the Trump campaign.

Brennan said he believed he was the first USA official to raise the matter of election interference with the Russians, citing an August 4, 2016 phone call he had with the head of Russia's FSB, Alexander Bortnikov.

Investigators are looking into possible financial crimes in addition to possible collusion between the campaign and Russian officials, the paper reported on Thursday.

Brennan has feuded publicly with Trump over the president's treatment of intelligence agencies.

Coats sidestepped the question but did not deny that Trump made the request.

Kushner, a key White House adviser and the husband of the president's daugheer, Ivanka Trump, did not initially disclose his meetings with Kislyak or Gorkov on his security clearance forms, according to The New York Times.

"They would have misheard my response to the very good questions that were asked of me", the former Central Intelligence Agency director said.

US media reports have alleged that Trump pressured his national security chief and his director of national intelligence to publicly deny the Russian Federation collusion allegations.

Coats told senators at a separate hearing that it would be inappropriate to discuss private conversations with the president.

The Washington Post on Thursday reported that investigators are instead examining Kushner's meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and a Russian banking executive late past year.
