The assessment comes amid a mushrooming crisis for the Trump team as questions swirl over why the president fired his FBI director, who was overseeing an investigation into Russian election meddling and possible connections between Trump campaign associates and Russia past year. Mark Warner, the committee's Democratic vice chairman, say the panel had first requested the documents from Flynn on April 28. Flynn resigned in February following reports that he had diplomatically engaged Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak prior to President Donald Trump taking office and that Flynn misled Vice President Mike Pence about that conversation.
Investigators have been looking into whether Flynn properly disclosed payments from clients with links to foreign governments, including Russian Federation and Turkey, CNN said.
"I've said from the beginning that our intentions are to get information from all the individuals of interest, and I will go to whatever lengths I feel necessary", Burr said in a brief hallway interview at the Capitol, hours before Trump fired Comey on Tuesday.
