Helicopter crew warns paddle-boarders about nearby sharks

- A new shark advisory was in effect today in Long Beach, where a group of sharks was reported to have been spotted in the shallow waters off the coast.

Most of the sharks reportedly looked like juvenile great whites - somewhere from six to eight feet long and about a year old.

The fire department warned beach goers to enter the water at their own risk. The sharks were more spread out, and much fewer than the 15 or so spotted within a half-mile of each other the previous day. This is the Orange Country Sheriff's Department.

The video opens with a close-up shot of a great white shark swimming in a turquoise ocean. Employees are heard discussing the sharks and the locations of people in the water.

A deputy in Orange County Sheriff's Duke 1 helicopter issued the warnings on behalf of state parks, as reported by the Orange County Register. Evans asked, "What was the response of the people in the water?" The water is not closed, the beach is not closed.

Currently, great white shark toddlers have aggregated off the cities of Dana Point, Long Beach and Ventura in California, Lowe said.

Since 1950, there have been less than two dozen confirmed shark attacks in San Diego County - and only two fatalities among those incidents. Lowe runs the shark lab at California State University, Long Beach.

"We may never know exactly how many sharks are out there, or exactly how many are killed each year". He added that if the water temperature patterns don't return, they "might start residing here"'.

Sightings are not uncommon along the coast, but attacks are rare. Stockbridge revealed the paddle-boarders appeared to take the shark warning seriously and immediately exited the water.
