Tesla's Klaus Grohmann ousted after clash with CEO Musk

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) acquired SolarCity previous year so that both the companies will be able to work together on better energy products, while also fulfilling the wish of CEO Elon Musk of the two companies working under one umbrella.

Musk's vision includes Tesla vehicles, a street-level platform, and a massive underground transport system. As the video shows, the company hopes to establish a network of tunnels in congested cities in which cars would travel between fixed points on high-speed sleds.

The cars will remain on a platform - called a vehicle "skate" - in the tunnel, which will take it through at up to 130 miles per hour.

U.S. entrepreneur Elon Musk has outlined his vision for a tunnel network under Los Angeles and shown how it might work.

So why not find a way to make cars fly, Anderson asked.

Still, there's lots of work to be done at The Boring Company, which now only has interns and part-timers working to fulfill Musk's dreams of reducing traffic.

What we're sure of, however, is that Musk has no plans of developing flying cars because it's noisy, anxiety building, and risky. Instead, Musk threw some money at the project, and bought a tunneling machine.

Musk also told the audience at TED2017 that Tesla will likely announce four more Gigafactories before the end of this year, but he offered no hints about where they might be located. There, they will be able to experiment with new digging technologies build on the current boring machine. "Let's just say that if something's flying over your head, if there are a whole bunch of flying cars all over the place, that is not an anxiety-reducing situation". As you might expect, these are no simple tunnels you drive in and out of. Two sources familiar with the matter said Tesla's plans to ramp up production with the help of the company now renamed Tesla Grohmann Automation remain on track.

"You can alleviate any degree of congestion with a 3D tunnel network", he said referring to a visualization he showed at the conference.

That's in spite of the current tunnel boring machines operating fairly slowly, according to Musk.
