Nintendo unveils successor to Nintendo 2DS: the 2DS XL

From what we gathered until now, the big release will take place on July 28 in the United States, and the device will cost $150. On July 28, New Nintendo 2DS XL makes its debut in North America at a suggested retail price of $149.99. "New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a lovely clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance".

You still get the same clamshell design of the current DS consoles but this comes in cool new black and turquoise or white and orange colour options.

Specs-wise, the 2DS XL is essentially a 3DS without the 3D-tech.

The system should be bolstered by the ungoing popularity of Pokemon Sun and Moon, while Nintendo also has a few other games on the way: Hey! It will include the C-stick, the ZL and ZR buttons, and the NFC tech to ensure communication with the amiibo figures, Gematsu reported. Portable Nintendo game systems are also the only dedicated video game systems where people can find their favorite characters and games. Moreover, they chose a handsome clamshell design, plus they balance greatly both performance and price.

In the case of the New 2DS XL, that function doesn't exist. Previously, the 2DS was billed as an entry-level device for kids.

The original 2DS was aimed primarily at children, but the three games being promoted alongside the New 2DS XL are 2D adventure Hey!

Older titles for 3DS continued to sell, with Mario Kart 7 moving 1.97 million, Pokemon ORAS 1.9 million, Pokemon X&Y 1.41 million, and New Super Mario Bros.

Its main screen is a 4.88ins 2D display, while a "slightly smaller" touchscreen is located just below it, the website says.

As seen in the above trailer, July 28 will also see the release of new 3DS games Hey Pikmin and Miitopia. According to the company, it sold over 2.74 million units of the Switch in the first month, when it expected to sell only 2 million units.
